Отрывок из стихотворения “Scallops

Scallops

Oh, sea! Do you have any scallops?

I’m looking for something indeed.

I’ve searched and I’ve looked through your narrows,

I’m scared of going too deep.

Just tell if I need to keep seeking,

Just tell if I’m doing it wrong.

Oh, maybe I have to start singing

Some kind of a ritual song?

Oh no, I am not fond of stealing,

I think you’re getting it false.

Through the storm my old ship I was steering

And lost dozen scallops with pearls.

Without ’em my heart will stop beating,

Without ’em I have nothing left.

So please, dear sea, take a pity,

Don’t think it’s a violent theft.

I’m married, I left all my daughters

And wife there, over the sea.

Big grief separation have brought us,

Don’t know if together we’ll be.

I’ve been through a lot, I was drowning,

Not once was my life on the line.

With storms and with rains I was battling

And never committed a crime.

Collected my treasure still dreaming

To give to my loved as a gift.

So please, dear sea, take a pity

And give my own scallops to me.
